Fun Wolf Facts
- The averaged sized wolf ranges between 4 ½ feet to 6 feet (tip of the nose to the tip of the tail). That’s the same size as a 4 ½ foot child or a 6 foot man!
- A wolf’s pack size ranges between 2 to 30 wolves depending on habitat and food supply. The average pack size is between 5 and 8 wolves. That’s more friends than some of us had in high school!
- Wolves can run between 36 and 38mph! That would get you a speeding ticket in a crowded neighborhood!
- Wolf pups are born deaf and blind and weigh around 1lb.
- Wolves can go several days without eating while they hunt for food. We have a few people in our office who can only go three hours without eating before they get really cranky.
- Once a wolf has found a mate, they usually stay together for life. This is also common of lobsters.
- Wolves have been portrayed across all types of popular movies and television shows. Kevin Costner danced with one, Jacob in Twilight was part wolf, and the dire wolves of Game of Thrones have found a large measure of their own fame.
- Wolves are often depicted as the “bad” character in fairy tales, therefore unjustly causing all little kids around the world to be afraid of them. Thanks Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs.
