amulet sword against lilith silver
According to Jewish mythology, Lilith, the abandoned first wife of Adam, is the avenging angel who threatens all descendants of Eve. The prophet Elijah urged Lilith, not to kill anymore children and mothers. Therefore, images of the shackled Lilith are popular motifs for amulets supposed to protect newborns and their mothers. Such protective seals were made in different shapes, in addition to round or heart-shaped amulets sword shapes were very popular. In our picture you can see such a sword against Lilith, in the text the guardian angels Sanoi, Sansanoi and Samangalaf are asked to exorcise the demonic forces of Lilith and thus to protect the baby. The design is based on a Kurdish silver charm from 1900 and it is privately owned by an Israeli collector.
