At the end of the month we will have to increase our prices on 4 products. We already explained the reasons for these increases in detail last October. The price of cotton has increased steadily over the past few months and broke through $2/pound just last week. Transport costs are also on the rise and will continue to grow throughout this year, adding to the overall price increase.
Due to these factors, those who produce and supply our products have increased their prices on 60 of our products by an average of 36%. Many have already informed us that they have planned further price increases for the second quarter of 2011. We have been in regular contact with our suppliers to work out the best possible strategy for the upcoming months.
That leads us to our price situation. We punched the numbers and came to the conclusion that we will have to increase the base price of (only) 4 products in our range. The 4 products are: Messenger Bag, Unisex Organic Heather Tee, Men’s Lightweight Ringer Tee, Unisex Track Jacket. The price increase information can be found on the forum.
In addition to the price increases on February 28th we will also be switching over all of our neon flex colors; neon pink, neon yellow, neon green and neon orange to our Speciality Flex Category. We are doing so because of consistent production issues when neon is used in multi-color designs.

Megan, no disrespect at all 🙂
You certainly will find a men’s t-shirt sold in retail stores for less than what we ask. We aren’t trying to (nor can we) compete with off the hanger products printed in runs of thousands of products. Each of our products is custom-made and that requires a few more dollars to do.
I don’t doubt that you could buy a shirt and transfer and come out cheaper than us, but you have to also consider the production costs, salaries and all other costs related to the platform to make the whole operation feasible.
Dear Speadshirt staff member,
I mean no disrespect, but I have to agree with Luis on one point.
Your base price IS inflated. There is no retailer short of perhaps Macys (and they’re way overpriced as well) who charges $16.90 for a single men’s tee shirt.
I can buy a heavy weight tee shirt AND dark tee shirt transfer material to print my original designs on, for less than your current base price for a single shirt.
If you can’t offer more competitive prices, perhaps it’s time to consider reshaping your budget in other areas.
Luis,
– prices on clothing are increasing everywhere directly influenced by the jump in cotton and energy prices. We are happy that we only have to increase the price on *4 products* from our 100+ product assortment.
– our base product prices are realistic. One can’t expect to get a new shirt for $5 – we aren’t H&M or Walmart. Those kinds of prices aren’t realistic nor are they sustainable.
– our domestic standard shipping rate of $4.50 beats all of our competitors.
– I understand your criticism of our promotions and the use of a minimum order value. I will pass your comments on to our marketing team. But we also offer a range of promotions with different variables throughout the year.
ridiculous your prices are already too high followed by outrageous shipping costs and really useless sales….that when you do have sales you either have to buy 3 or more items or buy something you dont need…
