Many of you have asked over the last few days if we were planning to do something for Japan. Some shop partners have even started doing promotions of their own to donate proceeds from sales in their shop.
Often with these large scale natural disasters, it comes down to the fine line between “doing good and talking about it” and “jumping on the bandwagon” – so here’s what we have planned.
We don’t want a donation to be dependent on a purchase, which also means we don’t want to decide for you where “your” money should go. Above all, we want to separate two things:
Showing Solidarity
Many of us want to express their sympathy and do something good. If you would like to donate, there are a number of options out there for you to look into, among others, the Red Cross or one of the many organizations the NY Times has listed.
We are also collecting donations and Spreadshirt as a company is donating €2,000 to an organization called Betterplace. We would be happy for every extra euro you as employees, customers or partners add on top of that.
Getting Active
The situation at the nuclear power plant has set off a series of debates across the world about their country’s use of nuclear energy. Whether it’s continuing the use of old plants beyond their life expectancy or building new plants, it’s a hot topic.
Governments are re-thinking their policies, people are taking part in demonstrations and of course there are lots of differing opinions. This can also be found on shirts. If you are thinking about hitting the streets to express your opinion, whatever that may be, we have three options for you:
- Free shipping with the coupon code HELP4JP (valid until 31 March, US customers will get standard shipping free, international customers up to $9.50 off their shipping costs)
- $20 off orders above $100 with the voucher code HELPJAPAN (valid until 31 March)
- or you can use our current promotion: SPRING2011 ($10 off purchase of $50, valid until 4 April)
Feel free to promote these in your shop or use them yourself. And if you want, donate (a part or all of) the money you save. Or simply donate. If any shop partners are running something on their own, let us know in a comment below and we’ll list them.

In an effort to respond personally to Japan’s disaster I have entered that I would donate 100% of the commission on my design 11012362 – hope2 – to relief efforts in Japan.
Mookie,
You may not be aware, but the flag you’re using in the “Heal the World” shirt historically has been the flag of the Imperial Navy, up through WWII. Today it’s used by the Self-Defense Force, but still it has military connotations, which may not be what you’re intending. Just an FYI.
Please support Japan.
100% of proceeds will go to the Red Cross.
Me and my Friend’s School have opened a new item to help earn money for people who have been effected by the disasters in Japan. we are donateing all the money earned <3!
