Marketing Tip Tuesday- Deciding on a Social Media Channel

Earlier, we discussed the importance of engaging with your customers on social media, it provides many great resources and it should never be ignored. But what exact sites should you use? We’re going to cover some of the basic ones you should use in this blog post and you should use them.

First, Facebook is an obvious first place to start. It is the largest social network and provides an easy way to connect with your customers. Build a nice page and make sure to refresh it with new content whenever possible. Use Facebook to update your customers on your business and to do some basic engagement.

The second choice is obvious: twitter. Twitter is the second largest social network and is great for directly communicating with customers on a one-by-one basis. If you use Facebook to make announcements about your company you should use twitter to talk about said announcement with your customers. Twitter should serve as a casual resource for your customers to go to, keep updated and engage directly with you.

After these two main choices, you have much smaller audiences on other websites. Depending on what you do, Pinterest may be of some interest to you. It will allow you create social shares of your art if you have it.  Another popular choice is Google+; although this is a newer social network and not one of the largest it does show a lot of promise and can be used in the same way as Facebook if you can build an audience there.  YouTube is also a popular choice for building up engagement but remember that the videos you make must be interesting to the user.

Overall, the social network you use must be used properly. Build up engagement and try to remember how your customers use their social network of choice. People on twitter want direct engagement; people on Facebook expect updates, people on YouTube like relevant and fun videos.  Remember, quality content and engagement is what wins when it comes to social media.
