If you plan to be beach or poolside this summer, you’ll need something to slip on over your suit. If you’re not much for see-through dresses and are looking for something much more casual the solution might be in your boyfriend or brother’s closet. A men’s basic tank top, such as ours pictured above is a great alternative for a traditional beach cover-up. It’s roomy, comfortable and oh so casual when looking to just slip something on when heading off the beach to the boardwalk. Depending on how much coverage you want you can order a size up or two and adorn with your design and text of choice. If you want to be extra creative you can even cut strips from the bottom to create a fringe look like this tank shown here from Urban Outfitters.
Or you can take a few cues from the swimsuit pro’s at Victoria’s Secret who offer a tank with extended armholes to show even more skin. Tip- just cut a bit away from the armhole to achieve this look. Perhaps my favorite transformation comes from the blog, Adventures of a Middle Sister who transformed a basic white t-shirt ( an oversized tank would work as well) into a a one-of-a-kind tie dye cover-up with braided detailing with hardly any sewing involved!

Loose tanks are definitely the way to go after a day of salt water, sunscreen, and sweat. I don’t like anything overly tight because they stick to me. Also, the thinner, the better. That way the breeze hits my hot skin. I love tanks with an off-the-shoulder look – beautiful but carefree. However, my favorite are the tanks that flare at the bottom, almost like a mini dress. Those emphasize my nearly non-existent hips, so it looks like I have more curves! Perfect!
