Marketing Tip Tuesday- Using Email Effectively

Email marketing is a tried and true method in internet marketing and no good business person can ignore it.  As discussed earlier, there are plenty of other channels like social media, blogging and SEO but sometimes you have to just send an email. This short blog post will outline some basic rules for making your email marketing campaign most effective.

1st: How should you use email marketing?

Email marketing should be used to send direct promotions, offers and information to customers of direct interest. Sure, you can spam random strangers who have no interest in your product but that wouldn’t be terribly effective and it would backfire. Use email sparingly and make it useful to your customers, not something that just fills up their inbox with something they don’t want.

2nd: What should be in your email?

Your emails should be short and to the point. They should have a unified subject matter and should look good! Don’t have a long email with ever changing subject matter. If your email is about funny t-shirts do not have parts in their about your new summer shorts collections, it will just throw off your customers. Make it about a specific product or promotion and keep it short.

3rd:  How can I get them to actually read it!?

That’s the tricky part with email marketing. You will have to experiment with your subject lines and the actual text of your emails. Remember to not make your email appear like spam otherwise they’ll never even see it as it will filter out. Make it relevant and useful. Remember, you are typically sending emails to people who are either already your customers or already interested in you. Most email marketing services have tracking capabilities, keep an eye on open rate and click through rate the most.

4th:  What else can I do?

Just remember people actually read your emails, use natural language and don’t try to force every possible promotion into a single email. Your customers know you and they want to interact with you via this medium. Make sure to listen to feedback and to include a method for customers to unsubscribe from your emails.

Email marketing is a powerful tool if used properly. Using the tips described here should enable you to connect with your customers in ways you normally couldn’t.
