Valentine’s Recipe – Sweet Mug Cake

blog_mug_cakeThey say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and we’re sure the same is true for women. So here’s a sugary idea to sweeten up your honey while making his or her day at the same time. Best of all, it’s so easy and so yummy that your little darling will think you’ve found the sorcerer’s stone of baking. And all the hardware you’ll need is a mug and a microwave.

What you need:

* 1 microwaveable (safe) mug
* microwave
* 10 tbsp. instant cocoa powder
* 4 tbsp. flour
* 1 tbsp. sugar
* 1 tsp. vanilla sugar
* 1 egg
* 3 tbsp. oil
* 3 tbsp. water

And it goes like this:

Grease the mug generously from the inside. Add the dry ingredients and mix them well. Add oil, water and egg, and use a fork to stir it all into a dough until it’s not lumpy anymore.

Put the mug into the microwave. The “baking time” may vary depending on your gadget, but we’d recommend going for 3 minutes at maximum power. Watch the cake grow as the mug spins in the microwave. If the cake is about to spill over, switch off the microwave for a little while and continue once the dough has settled back in the mug before you continue.

Et viola – a piece of cake! Your sugary sweet mug cake is done when the dough is nice and solid. Careful – it’s hot!! You’ll need to wait some time to let the mug cool down, so please use an oven mitt or kitchen cloth before you touch the mug. The cake’s too hot to eat straight away, but you can speed up cooling by chucking it onto a plate and slicing it into four equally sized pieces. Mug cleaning tip: the remaining dough may turn out to be quite persistent, so pour water into it straight after releasing the cake.

Now you can garnish the plate with little bits and pieces of delicacies. Our ideas for decoration: powdered sugar, whipped cream, vanilla sauce, fruit, granola, hazelnuts, chocolate chips, sprinkles… And a sweet darling surprise is guaranteed!

How was your last Valentine’s Day? Have you tried the recipe? We are dying to know how it worked! Please share your experience, and maybe you have some sweet recipes to share with us as well. Just leave a comment below.
