Pluto: Gone But Not Forgotten

Pluto, the red-headed stepchild of the solar system –recently ousted for her diminutive size from the rank and file of the nine planets of elementary school doctrine — had her recompense on Wednesday night when she, in all her high-definition glory, showed her heart through photos and video released by NASA. In a mission ten years in the making, brilliant images of both Pluto and her largest moon, Charon, were beamed four-billion miles back to Earth from the New Horizons spacecraft.

Pluto’s surface topography revealed many surprises, including a mountain range comparable in size the the Rockies and large formations of water-ice. Needless to say, Pluto certainly has the last laugh in the whole “Dwarf Planet” saga, in which she was so unjustly removed from text books everywhere as the “P” in the mnemonic device “My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas(Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto)”.

Great support has been shown for our four-billion-miles-away tiny little Dwarf Planet friend. Groups dedicated to her reinstatement as a “Planet, Planet” have exulted in joy and celebration in light of these recent developments, and many designs dedicated to her lasting memory and deserving stature have made their way to the Spreadshirt Marketplace. Show some love to the once ‘P’ in ‘Pizza’, our dear diminutive friend to the (very, VERY far) north… the one… the only… Pluto. [insert standing ovation, here].
