Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of bizarre social media holidays. Don’t miss your chance to connect with your followers and share your love of everything from sharks to pumpkin spice lattes.
Sure, you know the Christmas rush is a great chance to boost your sales and target gift buyers. But there are plenty of other reasons to celebrate throughout the year. These wacky holidays will inspire you to think outside the box and design something new. They’re also a great excuse to run promos and advertise your Showroom on social media!
International Curiosities
August 8th – World Cat Day
As you may be aware, approximately 83% of the internet is cats. Cat memes, cat videos, cat GIFs. World Cat Day is the direct result of this total feline domination. Sharpen your claws and create some purr-fect designs honoring the internet’s favorite animal.
And it’s not just for housecats—World Cat Day is also a good time to create designs dedicated to wildlife preservation and protection of the world’s precious big cats.
Bonus marketing idea: Try filming your cat or share a funny GIF.
September 6th – Anti-Procrastination Day
If you suffer from procrastinitis, this is the day for you! This is a perfect one to aim at students and schoolchildren.
September 21st – World Peace Day
Ok, so this holiday is actually sanctioned by the United Nations. Who doesn’t want world peace, right?
Hippie-style peace signs, calls for solidarity with war-torn regions, refugees welcome— there are so many ways to use your designs and influence for the greater good.
September 23rd – Autumnal Equinox
This day marks the beginning of autumn. The days are getting shorter and the sweaters are getting thicker. Time to expand your Showroom with fall designs and cuddly products.
October 1st – International Coffee Day
On this day, the world celebrates its most beloved bean. Design some coffee mugs with clever sayings about coffee or office culture and you’re sure to land a few big hits.
October 10th – International Dog Day
Watch out, World Cat Day! There’s an International Dog Day, too! There are also a lot of dog holidays, like National Dog Day in the USA on August 26th. Celebrate with designs dedicated to or inspired by man’s best friend!
October 22nd – CAPS LOCK DAY
TODAY IS THE DAY TO EXPRESS ALL YOUR BOTTLED-UP RAGE BY TYPING EVERYTHING IN CAPS LOCK. SCREAM-TYPE EVERYTHING! USE EXCESSIVE PUNCTUATION!!!!! LET IT ALL OUT!
October 25th – World Pasta Day
Have you ever heard of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster? Its followers, sometimes known as Pastafarians, are sure to rejoice on World Pasta Day. Pastafarians face religious oppression in the United States, which has very rudely ruled that the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is “not a real religion.” It has a website! And a gospel! How could it not be real?
November 21st – World Hello Day
World Hello Day was created in response to the Yom Kippur War between Israel and Egypt. It’s all about promoting peace and conflict resolution through communication. How does one celebrate World Hello Day? Greet ten strangers!
Bonus design idea: How do you say hello in other languages? Find out and create a cool design about it!
December 8th – Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day
This is our absolute favorite bizarre holiday!
This holiday is about playing make-believe and fooling people into thinking you’ve traveled from the past or future. Or just imagine you did— it’s sure to change the way you think about the technology around you.
Design inspiration: futuristic, space-age, or medieval—play with the space-time continuum in your Showroom!
America the Strange
August 23rd – Shark Week
Shark Week started back in 1988 and it’s become an annual tradition for shark lovers nationwide. The Discovery Channel is all sharks all the time for one entire week, starting from 8:15 pm on August 23rd. Shark documentaries, feature films and even simulated races between swimming star Michael Phelps and a shark!
Get inspired by these formidable, amazing creatures and add something sharky to your Showroom.
From September on – Pumpkin Spice Everything
For some, autumn means falling leaves, blustery days and cozy sweaters – for others, it’s officially “Pumpkin Spice” season. What’s the secret mixture? Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and allspice.
From lattes to cakes to lip balms, Pumpkin Spice takes the nation—and social media— by storm as soon as the first leaves start to change color.
And what does Pumpkin Spice have to do with your Showroom? That’s for you to cook up.
September 12th – Video Games Day
The fantastical world of video games offers endless inspiration for new designs. Video Games Day is celebrated in the USA, but the gaming community is, of course, worldwide.
Design Note: Many games and game characters are copyrighted, so do your homework before copying any characters!
September 26th – 29th – World Chicken Festival
Here’s a weird one: in downtown London, Kentucky, there is an annual weekend celebrating KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders. He hatched the first KFC restaurant in 1940. Fun fact: did you know that KFC has become the standard Christmas dinner in Japan?
Warning: This festival is not for vegans and vegetarians!
Which of these curious holidays will you be celebrating? What are your design ideas for Shark Week? Do you know why there isn’t a Squid Week? Let us know in the comments!
Looks like the design is on the back of the mug unless the user is a lefty.
Hi Roy 🙂
our Marketplace Designer got several options where to place a design but no matter what the customer itself could easily customize the product and change the print area aswell.
